Whether this is your first GivingTuesday or you’ve been involved for several years, the special day presents a powerful opportunity to connect your story, your staff, and your community with the causes you care about. It doesn’t matter how big or small your actions are, as long as you get involved! When you and your ministry participate, your efforts will produce a major impact and make a world of difference.
Get the Word Out
Communication makes a big difference in campaign participation. Let everyone know your plans to participate in GivingTuesday as soon as you can. Don’t be afraid to send multiple reminders leading up to December 1. You can send emails, post a news item, include it in your ministry’s newsletter, and share all over your social media platforms. Encourage your staff and volunteers to share on their own accounts as well so you reach as many people as possible. Your Givedot platform makes it easy to share your campaigns directly to social media and in other forms of communication.
Make it social
Use social media accounts and encourage everyone to share their stories. GivingTuesday is a social activity that goes beyond people just tweeting at the hashtag! It is about giving a voice to issues that matter and changes we wish to make. The global day of giving has rapidly grown and become a movement partly because of the enormous audiences it reaches and its ability to be shared.
GivingTuesday is not only a way to get people to support your ministry once, it’s a chance to grow your donor base and get people connected to your larger story. The goal is to keep them coming back to give time and time again! Great campaigns don’t end when the day is over. Make sure your supporters know how GivingTuesday went, how their contributions made a difference and how you plan to keep the Goodness rolling all year round. Don’t forget that once GivingTuesday wraps up, there are 51 other Tuesdays in a year to engage your people around Goodness!
