As the Coronavirus situation evolves, MissionSafe wants to provide clarity and education on which insurance plan options can be helpful for travelers.

Trip Cancellation Coverage

The product that MissionSafe recommends for those who are concerned about canceling their trip due to coronavirus is the RoundTrip Cancellation Plan (either Choice or Elite option) with the Cancel for Any Reason (CFAR) benefit. The CFAR benefit reimburses 75% of the trip cost if you cancel for fear of traveling due to the virus outbreak. Travelers need to purchase their insurance plan within 20 days of their initial trip deposit date in order to qualify for the CFAR benefit.

How is insurance coverage on the RoundTrip Cancellation Plan impacted by the outbreak?

Trip Delay Coverage

If an insured is delayed the required amount of time stated in the plan document for an applicable covered reason, benefits may include coverage for Travel Delay. Possible covered reasons include:

  • Quarantine
  • Any delay of a Common Carrier (the common carrier must certify the delay)

Missed Connection

Coverage for a missed connection may be included in your benefits. In order to trigger this coverage, an insured must miss a tour or cruise departure because of a delay for the required length of time (as stated in the plan document) if the delay is caused by a covered reason. Applicable covered reasons may include:

  • Quarantine
  • Any delay of a Common Carrier (the common carrier must certify the delay)

Travel Medical Insurance

Your medical expenses can be covered if you become ill with the Coronavirus while traveling.

If you require emergency medical evacuation due to the Coronavirus, this can also be covered.

Please note: The ability to execute an emergency medical evacuation may be limited due to travel and other restrictions. Some emergency evacuation providers and airlines have restricted and eradicated their services in certain areas.
